DOLE Kabuhayan brings hope to Gargato Fisherfolks

Barangay Gargato, one of the biggest barangays in the Municipality of Hinigaran, in Negros Occidental, is highly dependent on agriculture. Around 300 hectares of the total land area are devoted to farming of some major crops such as sugarcane, rice and coconut.

Also, being a coastal barangay, almost 50% of the household population is dependent on fishing as their main source of income.   Seventy percent of them are considered marginal fisherfolks while thirty percent are fishing boats‘laborers or fish driers’ workers.
