Growth Beyond Harvest
This is the story of the Oriental Mindoro Calamansi Producers Association and how it managed to grow as it ventured into Concentrated Calamansi Juice Production thru the help of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program.
The seasonality in agribusiness, especially in fruit and crop production like the calamansi, is already known by many. Because of the bountiful harvest during peak season, the selling price of calamansi goes down while the selling price escalates during lean season due to low supply. With the intention of helping the calamansi planters, producers, and workers to earn a substantial income during lean season, a total of 25 calamansi producers in San Miguel, Roxas, Oriental Mindoro started th Oriental Mindoro Calamansi Producers Association or OMCPA. They registered with the DOLE Region IV-B last November 11, 2011 to avail of livelihood assistance for the establishment of concentrated calamansi juice production business.
