Baguio City — On October 13, 2017, the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) continued the recognition of partners in the implementation of the Family Welfare Program (FWP) in Luzon during the Summit of Family Welfare Committee (FWC) of the Philippines.

To promote the DOLE Family Welfare Program (FWP) and pay tribute to the contribution and roles of the Family Welfare Committee (FWC) Federations, the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) conducted a conferment rites for the federated FWCs of Mindanao and Visayas on September 21, 2017 at Big 8 Corporate Hotel in Davao del Norte, coinciding the annual convention of FWCs in Mindanao.

On September 5, 2017, Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla, former Regional Director of the DOLE Regional Office V, is now the new Director of the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC). In a simple leadership and governance turnover ceremony, the outgoing BWSC Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba handed the symbolic key of stewardship to Atty. Trayvilla along with the BWSC banner and pertinent documents. The said turnover ceremony was attended by some DOLE Senior Officials and BWSC personnel.

On 9 August 2017, a total of 116 former Batangas Sugar Central Inc. (BSCI) refinery workers received cash distributed at the Barangay Hall of Caloocan, Balayan, Batangas, as settlement to the case filed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) against the officers of BSCI.

In 2016, the DOLE filed a case against the officers of BSCI in the Municipal Trial Court of Balayan, Batangas for violating Republic Act No. 6982, specifically for the non-distribution of the cash bonus fund to the BSCI refinery workers.
