Just recently, Honorable Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz signed Department Order No. 114 –A, series of 2016, Amending Department Order No. 114-11 (Amended Rules and Regulations Implementing Republic Act No. 6982), increasing the amount of maternity and death benefits under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) in the Sugar Industry.   The amount of cash benefits has been increased from Php2,000.00 to Php5,000.00 for maternity benefit, and from Php7,000.00 to Php10,000.00 for death benefit.  Said assistance is in addition to the existing benefits granted by law (e.g.  SSS, PhilHealth) or collective bargaining agreements.

Representatives from the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) along with the personnel from the different Bureaus, Services, and attached agencies of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) attended the event entitled, ARISE WOMEN: Inspirational Talk on Women Empowerment towards Gender Equality on 11 March 2016 at the Labor Governance Learning Center (LGLC), DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila. This is part of the celebration of the National Women’s Month for 2016, with the theme Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda!

Twenty-two (22) participants consisting of livelihood focal persons of the BWSC, NRCO, OWWA, DOLE NCR, ROs III and IV-A participated in the Pilot-run of the Training on  Business and Work Improvement Course (BWIC) last February 15-19, 2016 at the Lancaster Hotel in Mandaluyong City.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz together with DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balicasan, DSWD Undersecretary Camilo Gudmalin, DA Undersecretary Emerson Palad, DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero, DOH Director Mario Baquilod, DOJ Assistant Secretary Monica Pagunsan, TESDA Executive Director Marissa G. Legaspi, CWC Executive Director Particia Luna, and NCIP Chairperson Leonor Oralde-Quintayo signed the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) on Guidelines on the Implementation of the HELP ME Convergence Program to Address Child Labor last January 7, 2016 at the NEDA, Pasig City.

DOLE Secretary Baldoz came early to the BWSC the morning of January 11, 2016 to deliver her message on the occasion of the Bureau of Workers with Special Concern (BWSC) sixth (6) year anniversary.  Right after the flag ceremony, the Secretary expressed her message of support to the office considering the big challenges that confront the vulnerable workers which BWSC serves.
