The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) continues to uphold the rights of the persons with disabilities (PWDs) by directing all services, bureaus and regional offices to share the “May 1% ka ba?” videos of Project Inclusion.
The RA 10524 states that at least 1% of all positions in all government agencies, offices, or corporations shall be reserved for PWDs. Private corporations with more than 100 employees are likewise encouraged to reserve at least one percent of all positions for PWDs. Thus, came about the making of the “May 1% ka ba?” videos initiated by Project Inclusion.
In an email to the Bureau, Jim Nemeño, Project Officer of Project Inclusion, has asked the Department to consider sharing their videos in all official media platforms.
Director Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla, BWSC Director, expressed her full support to the program. She said, “To strengthen the advocacy efforts of the Department in promoting the rights of the PWDs, the Bureau recommended to adopt the campaign by sharing the video clips. To that, Undersecretary Ana Dione issued a memorandum directing all DOLE regional offices, services and bureaus to share the ‘May 1% ka ba?’ videos.”
The video clips are both a challenge and an invitation to companies to embrace PWDs in their work pool, and to increase awareness about the benefits of hiring PWDs.
